As an independent 501(c)(3), the UNT Foundation is governed by a self-perpetuating Board of Directors, composed of a diverse group of up to thirty-five volunteer professional, community and business leaders who generously contribute their time, expertise and financial support. Among the UNT Foundation’s key strengths is the consistently high caliber of its Board members and their commitment to its mission. Over 75% of Board Directors are also University of North Texas alumni; those who are not attended numerous other prestigious institutions, yet have graciously “adopted” UNT to benefit from their support. Several UNT Foundation Directors have previously served on the University of North Texas System Board of Regents, including some who’ve also chaired that august body. Many of our Board Directors have been recognized by the University with a host of athletics, achievement, donor and distinguished alumni awards: all are recognized, accomplished professionals in their respective fields of expertise. Equally important, all of the UNT Foundation’s Directors have great love and affinity for the University, its students, faculty, and programs.

After a maximum of twelve years' service, a Director may be asked to serve as a non-voting Advisory Director on a committee, either during an interim period until eligible for re-election or on a recurring basis, or to become an Emeritus Director in recognition of their past service. The University's President and Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration both serve as ex-officio members of the Board. UNT Foundation’s Board of Directors meet quarterly and each Director also serves on at least one of six standing committees dedicated to various aspects of the Foundation's business operations. The Executive Committee is composed of the four officers (Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer), the chairs of the six standing committees, and others invited by the Chair.
