Renowned organic chemist named first Welch Chair

Internationally renowned chemist Dr. Weston Borden has been named the first Welch Chair in Chemistry at the University of North Texas.

Borden is recognized for his work in the field of computational organic chemistry. His research group will move into the new, 105,000- square-foot chemistry building on campus.

The Welch Chair was made possible with a $1 million donation from the Robert A. Welch Foundation. The UNT Foundation manages more than $1 million of the Welch Chair Endowment.

New Foundation web site

The UNT Foundation launched its new web site this summer, with help from University Communications, Relations and Marketing.

The new web site features tools for easier navigation, information for campus account holders and donors, printable forms and electronic versions of this newsletter. Access the new web site at: http://endow.unt.edu.

Fund-raising with eBay

The UNT Foundation and UNT’s Office of Development recently joined 2,900 other nonprofits in fund-raising through eBay sales.

The Foundation has registered with MissionFish, a Points of Light organization that helps nonprofits receive money through online sales.

Proceeds directed to the Foundation will go to the UNT Cornerstone Fund for Scholars.

Victory Hall opens

Despite record-setting rainfall this summer, construction crews opened doors to students in time for the fall semester. The $23.7 million, 600-bed dormitory and a $5.3 million dining hall are the cornerstones for development on the Eagle Point Campus, located just across Interstate 35 from the main campus. Long-term plans call for a football stadium, athletics offices and other amenities. The Foundation manages more than a dozen athletic scholarship funds:
